Media Notes

Small observations on photographs, sound and everyday creativity.

Making room for the ordinary

A quiet street, a reflection in a window, the last light on a kitchen wall: photographs often begin with noticing what is already there. A short walk with one lens can be a useful exercise in paying attention.

Listening beyond the foreground

Before recording a conversation, listen to the room. A fan, an open window or an empty hallway can change the character of a recording. Moving a few steps sometimes helps more than another piece of equipment.

A simple archive

Keep original files, name folders by date and make a second copy somewhere separate. A useful archive is one you can understand when you return to it months later.
